Wooden Floor and Floor Plank

Despite the fact that various new materials appear in the construction market over time, wooden flooring is still very trendy and popular.

What should we consider when choosing a floorboard?

When choosing a wooden floor, the first thing to consider is the type of wood.
Since hardwoods are very expensive, we can focus on comparatively soft materials such as spruce and pine.

Spruce and pine are selected when we do not have particularly high standard requirements or any special wishes regarding the wood material.

You should also consider the moisture content of the plank. The plank must be well dried. If the plank is not dry and is laid in this way, it will deform and soon deteriorate. dried up უნდა იყოს. თუ ფიცარი მშრალი არ არის და მისი დაგება ისე მოხდება, ის დეფორმირდება და მალე გაფუჭდება.

The level of surface treatment of the plank can also be used as a selection criterion. The surface of a quality-treated plank should be slippery. დამუშავების დონე. ხარისხიანად დამუშავებული ფიცრის ზედაპირი სრიალა უნდა იყოს.

It is important that the plank does not have protruding knots or cracks.

What thickness of planks is needed and what should we consider when laying a plank floor?

When laying the floor, you should consider:

How many centimeters is the distance between the joists on which we should lay the floor, because this distance is used to calculate the thickness of the floor required. For example:

• If the distance between the joists is 80-100 cm, then we should lay a 4 cm thick floor board.

• If the distance between the joists is 60-70-80 centimeters, then we should lay a 3.6-centimeter thick floor.

• If the distance between the joists is 40-50-60 centimeters, then it is possible to lay a 2.6-centimeter thick plank floor.

Is it possible to install plank flooring directly on the subfloor?

It is possible, but it is less common in practice than the case of a joist. Plywood or OSB panels are installed on the joist and then the floor is laid on top. Or in the second option, the joist is cut and 40-50 beams are placed inside and then the floor is laid on top, which is quite laborious.

Does the plank need to be acclimatized before laying?

Our material is cut in Russia, in the Arkhangelsk region – in an absolutely different climatic zone. There are places where there is no sunny weather for even 3 months and production takes place in such a climate. However, the planks are dried in special dryers and there they are brought to the required condition, after which they are wrapped in cellophane and stored. From the warehouse they are loaded into a container and arrive in Georgia – in a completely different climatic zone.

Despite the polyethylene packaging, the material can still absorb a small amount of moisture.

Therefore, it is advisable to place the planks in the spaces where they will be laid before laying. If possible, they should be removed from the polyethylene bags and arranged as such. If this is not possible, the bags should be cut to allow air circulation.

It is advisable to let the plank dry for a week to 10 days and only then install it.

How to install a wooden floor? On your own or with the help of a craftsman?

It is recommended that the floor be installed by a craftsman who has extensive experience in this work, although we have encountered people in practice who manage to install wooden floors on their own and are satisfied with the work.

How do we fix the planks?

Traditionally, nails are used to fasten the planks. It is also possible to use screws and bolts.

It is important to fasten from the side, not from above, so as not to damage the surface of the plank and to keep nails or screws out of sight.

Does a newly laid floor need to be sealed?

Our planks are well-finished at the factory. However, it is recommended to sand the floor before applying the varnish. Sanding will also correct any existing height differences. If you would like sanding, you can contact our partner company Parquet.ge by clicking on this link – ციკლოვკა

Will the laid planks develop grooves over time?

Wood is a living organism and breathes continuously. It absorbs moisture from the air and then releases it. It expands and contracts accordingly. Although our solid planks are well-dried, they can develop small grooves over time and depending on environmental conditions. This can often be invisible to the eye.

What should we use to treat a paved floor?

After laying, it is advisable to wait a little longer for the floor to dry and not to immediately polish or oil it. It is recommended to use high-quality varnishes and oils for processing. Both materials have their pros and cons. You can buy German varnishes and oils from us. Oils can also be used to give the floor color.
